The Fred Douglas Society is a leader in seniors housing, programs and services. Fred Douglas Society consists of: History The Atrium at Fred Douglas Heritage House. In 1952, Dr. Fred Douglas started his mission to provide individuals with the best quality of life possible. Ten years later it became the Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home and Seniors Apartments.
The personal care home on Burrows was first opened in 1972 and expanded in 1990 to meet growing demand. During the 1980s, Fred Douglas Society and Manitoba Housing partnered to create Fred Douglas Place, a life lease building on Vaughan Street. It opened in 1988. The redevelopment of four floors above the Vaughan Street YM-YWCA was completed in 1999.
Fred Douglas Heritage House is a supportive housing complex for seniors. It provides meals, light cleaning and help with some daily activities.
